This is the only honor society for music students at the high school and middle school levels. Tri-M is a program associated with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) which promotes music in our schools, connects students around the world with others that serve the same passion, and encourages students to spread their love of music with those in the community and beyond. This honor society is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and to provide leadership and service opportunities to young musicians. This is a student led organization that supports leadership, scholarship, service, and musicianship.
Membership Eligibility
- Music Participation
- Candidates must have been enrolled in a school-sponsored music ensemble/ class for at least one semester of the current school year for at least 1.0 credit
- Academic Achievement
- Candidates must have maintained for the previous semester at least an A average in music ensemble classes
- Candidates must have at least a B average in other academic subjects
- In general, this is a 3.0 GPA requirement

- Character
- 3 teacher recommendations required if invited for membership
Officer Responsibilities
President
- Presides at chapter meetings
- Develops agenda for meetings
- Represents chapter on and off campus
- Facilitates formation of chapter goals
Vice President
- Publicizes meetings and other activities
- Schedules guest speakers with assistance from other officers/ advisors
- Educates new members on history of Tri-M
Secretary
- Records chapter minutes
- Handles correspondence for chapter, including thank you letters and interactions with other Tri-M chapters
- Assists with creation of flyers/ publications with other officers
Treasurer
- Maintains membership records
- Prepares a chapter roster
- Maintains the chapter's financial records
Historian
- Keeps record of chapter activities through photographs of events, saving flyers, etc.
- Assists with creation of flyers/ publications with other officers
